Josh, Hard To Sait-isfy

By Brian Marantelli 19 July 2011

The 38th annual Murchison 10k handicap was run on Sunday under stromy skies and an annoying cold wind. The event started from the front gate of the Murchison football ground, travelled through the township and finished with a lap of the football ground. The winner was Bendigo's Josh Sait, only taking the lead from Tony Parsons inside the ground. The backmarker Michael Marantelli rattled home to grab third from Greg Hilson in the last stride. Lisa Roberts hit the lead inside the last kilometre and looked a winning chance until stumbling on entering the football ground and losing her momentum. Lisa picked herself up and ran to the line to finish sixth just behind Austin Beamish. Lisa was also the winner of the $200 bonus provided by Norm Charles for being the first "bus person" home.

Josh Sait has had a great couple of years having recently won the Mark Ruff 5k at Bendigo following on from his 10 mile win last season at Woodlands Park. Josh also gained the third fastest time award behind Michael Marantelli and David Spence. Olivia Findlay was the fastest female and Leon Brooks won the special novice award generously provided by life member Ted Connell. Others to feature in the finish were Tony Sait, father of the winner, Ted Paulin and Greg Foran.

The Victorian Cross Country League and it's athletes would like to thank the Tuhan family for the incredible support they have given over the last 38 years.

This week's race is the 13th running of the 10k sealed Eric Greaves Memorial at Braeside Park, starting 10am.

Runners please note that to be eligible for the 46th Norm Charles Classic you must have completed three races with the VCCL this year.

Also event 14, the HHH 8k on August 14th, is to be run between the bridges opposite Olympic Park and not as advertised in the booklet.
