Les is More
Race five of the Victorian Cross Country League season was our second parkrun event and Les Williams had a resounding win on handicaps. Les, ageless and racing at the Sale venue, ran a very creditable 18:31 and chalked up another venue record for his age group on the way to a comfortable win. Les had a minute to spare over “Tiger” Grant, racing at Lilydale Lake and Tony Moran from Karkarook venue. Fastest time went to Joel Donnar at Westerfolds Park with a run of 16:41. Fastest female was Martine Beer from Frog Hollow clocking in at 19:58.
Twenty three VCCL athletes competed in the parkruns on Sunday, a slight increase from the first week. Considering the weather any improvement in numbers was encouraging.
This Sunday we venture to Warringal Park in Heidelberg for the Rendina Family 8km. This event, kindly sponsored by Tony, Charlene and Christian Rendina, has been on the VCCL calendar for over thirty years and runners will enjoy one of the best city venues for an event.
The following week (26/5) the VCCL combine with Athletics Victoria at Cruden Farm for a 12km event. The event gives our AV teams an opportunity to cement their places at the top of the table in their respective divisions.
On June 2nd we revert to our third parkrun and Heather and Glenn Sullivan have nominated their home venue, Inverloch, as an ideal venue for a run and a scenic visit. The course is entirely on paths and guarantees a pleasant run along the beach road.
