From Cruden Farm To Altona Beach
VCCL division four team at AV Cruden Farm cross country.
The Victorian Cross Country League combined with Athletics Victoria at Cruden Farm for event seven on the calendar. The event was a 12km team event with VCCL represented by our division four team of Michael Marantelli (39:21), Oscar Robinson (40:36), Dan Lawler (43:47), Matt Grant (45:46) and Craig Harris (48:10). The team produced another sterling effort to finish second to the powerful St Stephen’s team and in doing so maintained their position on top of the Division four ladder. Our division seven team were unable to make the trip but still hold their lead on that divison’s table.
The VCCL handicap event, held within the 12km cross country, event was taken out by the in form Sean Quilty from Oscar Robinson and Michael Marantelli. Sean had a thirty three second margin over Oscar and following on from the Rendina 8km completes back to back wins. Marantelli was the fastest overall with Brigette Humphreys (48:38) the fastest of the women.
The following Saturday we returned to the parkrun format with twenty one competitors visiting eleven different venues to arrive at Irene James as the overall winner. Irene competed at Karkarook and recorded 24:09 to defeat Natalie Densley from Altona Beach by thirteen seconds with Les Williams from Sale in third place. Irene completed a season’s double after winning at Frog Hollow in April. Joel Donnar from Gardiners Creek recorded the fastest time at 16:23 and Brigette Humphreys was once again the fastest of the girls with a run of 19:06.
This Sunday the VCCL conduct the third of our club runs, the 8km Caruana Classsic at Woodlands Park. The Bendigo Athletic Club will be joining us for a 10am start.
