Doubles for Densley and Harris

Natalie Densley continued on her winning way at the Altona parkrun in early September to add to her maiden win at Warrnambool earlier in the Victorian Cross Country League season. Natalie defeated Fraser Murray (Coburg) and Julian Harris (Mullum Mullum) in her most recent win which replicated the finishing order of her first win. Natalie’s consistent winter form, with six consecutive top five finishes, should ensure a competitive summer track season. Fastest time of the day went to Joel Donnar with a 15:58 run at Mullum Mullum.

Craig Harris, competing in the Athletics Victoria Tan Relays last Saturday, scored a narrow win in the VCCL sealed handicap event. Craig, running for division seven, outlasted his relay teammate, Matt Grant, by ten seconds to take the win and help the team capture top prize in the relay. Craig’s win follows on from his earlier victory, competing at Gardiner’s Creek in a parkrun event. Fraser Murray, also competing in division seven was third. Fastest times were Michael Marantelli (11:54) and Ashley Brown (14:13).

The VCCL teams competing in the relay had a solid day with division four and division seven both having clear wins and our women’s team, having only two athletes, ran extremely well but unfortunately couldn’t qualify for points.

The Tan Relays was the final event on the Athletics Victoria winter program and the VCCL, entering only three teams, finished with an outstanding overall result. The division four team were clear winners and will move up to division three. The division seven team had the most wins (four) in their division but unfortunately were unable to field a team on several occasions, leaving them in second place. The women’s team also lacking numbers, with only three appearances, finished mid table. With this season’s experience, the VCCLs first in AV, we look forward to making a further impact next winter.

This Sunday, September 23rd, the club will conduct our final race for the season at Westerfolds Park. The event will be a handicap start over 3km starting at 10am.
