Harding Wins at Woodlands in a Nick of Time

The Bendigo Athletic Club joined with the VCCL at Woodlands Park last Sunday for the 16th annual Caruana 8k Classic. In a great finish Nick Harding held on to defeat Bendigo's fast finishing Greg Hilson by eight seconds with Gemma Kenessy in third place. Nick's win was the first with the club, in his fourth season and comes on the back of a very good placing last week at Warringal Park. After hitting the lead early in the race, Nick looked in danger at the 1k mark but battled on gamely to hold out Hilson. Greg Hilson's performance was first class and showed that he will be hard to beat in the upcoming Eaglehawk to Bendigo road race, an event he has won previously. Gemma Kenessy, Mark Hipworth and Greg Foran again finished in the top ten and a win is not too far away for any one of this trio. Josh Sait, who won last seasons's ten miler, finished an impressive fourth and ran the second fastest time behind David Bence. Gemma Kenessy and Corina Kapusta were the fastest females. Richie Polkinghorne, having his first run for some time also finished in the top ten.

The Victorian Cross Country League would once again like to thank Joe and Machelle Caruana for the continued support of this event over the last sixteen years.

This week's race is on Saturday at Birdsland with a 10am start and includes the time honoured Family Feud shield. The family feud looks wide open with last years winner, the O'Briens, only a shadow of their former glory.

Runners please note that there will be no late entrys for the Eaglehawk to Bendigo race on June 19th. Please make sure your entry is in by the weekend.
