Season 2024

By Brian Marantelli 28 March 2024

Hi members, athletes and supporters,

Welcome to the 2024 Victorian Cross Country League, trusting all are fit, well and rearing to go for another winter season. For the last few seasons the club has considered many different avenues to increase a dwindling membership, remain competitive and continue to be financially viable. The format for season 2024 has changed dramatically from previous years and the VCCL committee have decided that this season’s direction is the best way of assuring the VCCL’s survival.

The club, to continue has annual expenses of approximately $4,000 with income from investments in the vicinity of $2,000 and registrations fees amounting to $1200. With investments of $40,000, and an annual deficit of approximately $1,000 the capital will gradually decrease with the resulting income also decreasing.

The committee has decided that for this winter we will no longer conduct any club races and also will discontinue the parkrun events. Interest in the Sunday morning club races no longer can justify the cost involved and parkrun has unfortunately not been a successful means of attracting AV registrations. The VCCL will continue to compete in the Athletics Victoria competition and welcome any new and returning members for season 2024. The club will continue to pay the AV relay fees but AV athletes must remember to register and pay for individual AV races. The VCCL registration fee has been set at $70, life members and first year athletes are free.

Marcus Boxall has once again generously attended to our website with a brand new look and all relevant information.

Janine McKerron with the help of Oscar Robinson will update the club’s Facebook page. New competitors also please follow the VCCL 2024 Facebook group for information regarding relay teams, car pooling etc.

Julian Harris and Oscar will also operate a VCCL instagram page — details to follow.

Good luck and hope to see everyone soon.

Brian Marantelli
