Irene Says Goodnight To Greaves Contestants

By Brian Marantelli 27 July 2011

The 13th Eric Greaves Memorial 10k sealed handicap was an all female finish with Irene James holding out Olivia Findlay by twenty three seconds at Braeside Park on Sunday. The weather was cold and overcast but the VCCL had a reasonable turnout to compete for the hand carved perpetual trophy provided by long time VCCL supporter Ross Johnstone. Irene's win came as no surprise after her gallant effort at Bendigo to lead the field for most of the race and then followed up with an excellent run in the club relay. The first Male home was third placed Marcus Boxall marginally ahead of Dennis Hughes and Corey Lawson. The fastest times went to Corey Lawson and Mark Andrews who both finished in the top ten on handicaps. Last season's Greaves Memorial and aggregate winner David Page also continued his consistent year to finish seventh just behind Craig Harris. Tony Parsons, obviously suffering from "bus Fatigue" after his great second at Murchison battled into ninth just clear of Colin Wight. The fastest female award went to Corina Kapusta with the novice prize to Matt Grant.

Runners please note that to be eligible for prizemoney in the 46th Norm Charles Classic you must have completed three races with the VCCL this year.

Also event 14, the HHH 8k on August 14th, is to be run between the bridges opposite Olympic Park and not as advertised in the booklet.
