The Jule In The Harris Clan

By Brian Marantelli 27 April 2016

Julian Harris, winner of the 2016 Moran Stable H’cap.

With Julian Harris taking out the Moran Stable 5km and following on from Adina Morrow winning the opening event it is two out of two for the young guns of the VCCL. In taking home the first prize of $400 Julian also destroyed his PB for 5km by over ninety seconds. The Karkarook Park event was Julian’s second win with the club, having won last season’s Rendina Family 8km Classic. With Julian slicing large “chunks” off his times (18:47) and only fifteen years old it won’t be long before “Jules” starts contending for the fastest times awards.

Last week’s winner, Adina Morrow, continued on with her good form and was only nine seconds from the winner. Janine McKerron, in career best form, was a solid third, improving on her placing at Westerfolds Park last Sunday. Fraser Murray, with solid improvement has steadily worked his way back in the handicaps but still remains competitive in fourth place. Hugo Sarpa was next home just clear of Andrew Lane, last season’s aggregate winner. Marcus Boxall having his first run for the season finished seventh with Mark Hipworth in eighth place, inches to the good of the race sponsor, Tony Moran. Andrew Soltys closed out the top ten, complementing his tenth place from last week. In eighteenth place was Craig Harris (17:55), father of the winner, only just clinging onto “pole” position in the family pecking order.

The fastest times awards went to Jacob Nolan (17:18), Sean Quilty (17:31) and fastest female Corina Kapusta (19:19). Novice awards to David Mitchell and Carol Stewart.

Many thanks to the Tony Moran Running Stable for their continued support over many years for this event. Next Sunday we conduct the Rendina Family 8km Classic at Warringal Park with a 10am start.
