Corina Kapusta captured her biggest Victorian Cross Country League win on Sunday when she crossed the line in the 27th Rendina Family 8km Classic. Corina, in her twentieth season with the VCCL and with 265 races and seven previous wins to her credit, took home the $900 first prize with five seconds to spare. Corina also was the fastest of the females with her time of 31:25.

Cody Williamson, the race backmarker, ran a great race to finish in second place and clearly recorded the fastest time of 26:30. Tony Moran, coach of the winner, produced his best finish for a couple of seasons in third place. The very consistent Adina Morrow continued with her impressive early season form to finish fourth. Hugo Sarpa, after setting up the 8km course earlier on Sunday morning, finished fifth, the same placing as the previous week. Mark Hipworth, Fraser Murray, the occasionally forgotten Janine McKerron, Gary Hall, and Andrew Lane finished close up in a bunch to make up the top ten placings. The first season awards went to Andrea Ray and Adamo Triani.

The event was sponsored, for the 27th year by Tony and Charlene Rendina and family and in recent times supported by Darren and Mark from Contract Fire. We thank Tony and Charlene for their great support over an extended period of time and Contract Fire for their interest and sponsorship of a VCCL event.
This coming Sunday, being Mothers Days, is a rest day for VCCL members but the following week is the VCCL relay at Woodlands Park, Greenvale. Runners can either make up their own teams (with 4 or 5 competitors) or have Mark O’Brien organise a team for those without a team.

Members are also reminded that on Sunday 22nd of May is the Fraser Murray Family Feud over 5km at Birds Land, Belgrave Heights. Runners are invited to bring along a family and race for the honour of having their name added to the Family Feud Shield.
