Hugo Sharper Over 5k

By Brian Marantelli 27 May 2016

Only a small field contested the Fraser Murray Family Feud 5km at Birds Land on Sunday morning and the finish was a comprehensive win to Hugo Sarpa. Hugo, who has always appreciated the shorter courses, finished with a twenty four second margin over the rest of the field. Hugo’s win comes on the back of two recent fifth placings at the Rendina and Moran Handicaps.

Fraser Murray, the race sponsor, finished second and in doing so recorded his fastest Birds Land time in three attempts. Olivia Findlay in third place is improving each week and a win seems close at hand. Janine McKerron and Tony Moran, fourth and fifth, continued their run of top ten finishes. Josh Nolan, formerly of the Bendigo Club, led the sealed handicap to finish sixth overall. Jay Wright, in seventh, managed her first placing for the season as did Stephen Menzies in eighth place. Dave Page and Troy Atkins completed the top ten.

Fastest time awards went to Josh Nolan (16:38), David Page (18:03) and Corina Kapusta (18:59). Adamo Traini captured his first VCCL prizemoney, winning the two first year member awards.

The Family Feud Shield went to Olivia and Rob Findlay with the Fraser and Harris families filling the minor placings.

Many thanks to Fraser for his continued support of the VCCL both on and off the track.

This Sunday is the AB Phillips Sealed Handicap 6.5km at Lysterfield Park with a 10am start. The event is also a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
