Lisa Simp-ly Home 'er Hosed

By Brian Marantelli 8 August 2011

The Tony Rendina legend race took place on Sunday over 5k around Lilydale Lake and was taken out by the improving Lisa Roberts. Lisa hit the front early and cleared out to win by forty seconds from a closely bunched group of runners fighting out the minor placings. Lisa has had a great VCCL season running many placings and by co-incidence also winning the Rendina 8k earlier in the year. Although Lisa's margin was convincing the next eleven runners finished with 15 seconds of second placed Dennis Hughes. Dennis who is coming back to his best form for a while hung on to second narrowly in front of the quick closing Ashley Snowden and David Page. Others to make the top ten were the consistent trio of David Girolamo, Tony Parsons and Craig Harris. Michael Marantelli was eigth across the line and fastest time, marginally ahead of Leon Brooks and Wayne James. Sunday saw the re-appearance of 2010 club champion Simon Field who ran from the back mark and ran the overall second fastest time. Fastest female was Corina Kapusta and the novice went to Matthew Grant.

The race was named in honour of long time VCCL runner Tony Rendina who has run with the club over for over thirty years and won many races although the Norm Charles Classic has always alluded him. Tony was also a consistent competitor with the Victorian Athletic League during the summer months.

This weeks race has been transferred to the Yarra River opposite Olympic Park. Starting point close to the Anderson Street hill.
