Two For Morrow

By Brian Marantelli 6 July 2016

Adina Morrow continued her excellent 2016 season when she established a mid race lead and then held on over the concluding stages at Woodlands Park last week. Adina had a nineteen second advantage over veteran Tony Moran who had to be content with another placing in his three hundred and thirty race VCCL career. Sunday was Adina’s third win with the club and in each win she has handled the handicap penalty with solid improvement in her times. Moran, who has an outstanding fifty percent rate of top ten finishes with the club is very close to a win, his first since the Grubb and Charlton memorial in 2013. David Page gradually working his way up the leader board produced his best finish in the past two seasons to take third place. David was also the fastest overall with a run of 36:50. The ever consistent Fraser Murray maintained his record of top ten finishes with a solid fourth. First year member David Mitchell, steadfastly gaining on Fraser, was a creditable fifth with his best run of the season. Janine McKerron was first of the girls to finish in sixth place, just ahead of Troy Atkins and Peter Lockyer. Daniel Lawlor was the second fastest overall with a time of 36:59, although his time was distorted by missing the start by thirty seconds. Jayde Daly was first of the unplaced new members and Corina Kapusta (39:49) the fastest of the girls overall.

This Saturday, 9th July, the VCCL will be entering teams in the Athletics Victoria relay at Sandown Park. The following day the VCCL will conduct the annual Helmut and Maija Prentler 5km Sealed Handicap at Churchill Park, start time 10am.
