David Stones scored his first Victorian Cross Country League win on Sunday at Jells Park where he had the barest of margins in the 5km sealed handicap. David had only one second to spare over Olivia Findlay with a further eight seconds to Mark Beavis. Stones has been a VCCL member for several years and combines the Sunday cross country runs with his Athletics Victoria coaching. Before Sunday, David’s best recent VCCL performance was an eleventh at Westgate Park, also over 5km. Olivia Findlay continues her run of close finishes with another placing, making it three narrow defeats in three recent runs. Mark Beavis, a slow starter this year through injury, has continued his climb up the result sheet with his third place, his best finish for the winter. The fastest times were recorded by Jacob Nolan (17:18) from Sean Quilty (17:29). Corina Kapusta was the fastest of the girls with a run of 18:44.

The VCCL’s next event is the George Perdon 10 mile sealed handicap on August 21st at Brimbank Park. This is a combined event with the Victorian Masters and starts at 10am.
