Pacman Swallows Up His Rivals

By Brian Marantelli 14 August 2011

The twentieth running of the Hash House Harriers was won narrowly on Sunday by Eric, the Pacman, Sapac from Tony Parsons and Dennis Hughes.

The race conducted between the bridges, opposite Olympic Park, was run in still conditions with brilliant sunshine. Eric was always well placed but only looked a winning chance as he moved into sixth place after clearing the last bridge. He settled for the long run home and gradually picked off the tiring front markers to win by six seconds. Sapac who is a very competitive track runner is in his third season with the Victorian Cross Country League and the Bridges is his first win. Sean Beer ran a great race to finish fourth closing on the fifth placed Colin Wight in the last few metres. David Girolamo maintaining his good 2011 form finished sixth inches in front of the improving David Haigh. Others to finish in the top ten were Marcus Boxall, Irene James and the globe trotting Tom Hecimovic. Now that Tom is back from one of his never ending holidays we should expect him come to the fore at Westgate again.

The fastest time honours went to Luke Searle (25.47) from Michael Marantelli (25.59) in what was a great duel back in the field. The fastest of the ladies were Corina Kapusta (30.28) and Caitlin Haala (33.32). The novice prize went to Rob Findlay (30.32).

Next weeks event is the George Perdon 10 Miler at Jells Park, with a 6.5k sweepstakes race for those not wishing to tackle the longer distance.
