Olivia Finally

Olivia Findlay, after sixty three Victorian Cross Country League races, the last four events as runner-up, left her best to last with a victory in the final race of the season. Sunday’s 3km sealed handicap was Olivia’s first win with the club and the winning margin of seventeen seconds over a 3km course made certain second place wasn’t an option. Olivia has shown great versatility in her recent runs with her placings ranging from 5k to 16k before her “sprint” course win at Westerfolds Park.

Matt Grant recorded the fastest time of the day (10:01), duplicating last year’s performance once again to finish second. Mark Beavis, still chasing his maiden victory, was third, a small margin to the good of David Page. In a very tight bunch, Fraser Murray, Julian Harris and Leon Brooks, were next in, Fraser gaining valuable aggregate points by holding down fifth place. Adamo Triani (11:31) was fastest first year runner and Donovan Quilty opened his VCCL bank account with the first novice cheque. David Page won the Ted Paulin over 40’s award with a very solid effort of 10:18.

The club varied from previous years by presenting the annual awards after the last race, in preference to an organised presentation night. The awards went as follows:

The 2016 Victorian Cross Country League Annual General Meeting will be held at the McKinnon Hotel on Sunday October 16th, 10am for a 10:30 start. With the changing recreational athletic scene over recent years the committee needs input from our members to help decide the future direction of the club.
