Adamo Traini, winner of the 2017 Rendina H’cap.

Adamo Traini raced away for his first Victorian Cross Country League win on Saturday at Warringal Park in the 28th staging of the Rendina Family 8km handicap. Adamo, who rarely misses an event, is in his second season with the club and has shown steady improvement in his sixteen runs. Traini improved on his fourth at Westerfolds last Saturday and had thirty eight seconds to spare as he crossed the finish line, clear of Janine McKerron and Daniel Lawlor. Janine and Daniel, who both missed the season opener, showed that they are ready for a good winter season with excellent runs. Mitch Cashion, running from the back mark, made up steady ground to finish fourth and finished with the fastest time of the day, 26:51. Olivia Findlay maintained her good form from week one to finish in fifth place, first of the women. The fastest female award went to Camilla Whishaw with her time of 27:06. The novice award went to Steph Mollica.

Saturday’s 8km event was sponsored by long time members Charlene, Tony, and Christian Rendina and Matthew Taylor.

This Sunday the VCCL race at Brimbank Park over 5km with a 9am start.
