Gem Of A Run From Stones

David Stones, winner of the 2017 AB Phillips Handicap.

David Stones continued with his great recent form at Lysterfield Park on Saturday by taking out the AB Phillips 6.5km sealed handicap. Lysterfield was David’s second win with the club, his previous being the 5km at Jells Park in 2016. David’s recent form was a close second to Leon Brooks at Yarra Bend and before that fifth in the Westgate 5km.

Stones had a good margin of thirty three seconds to spare over the consistent Adamo Traini with Joel Donnar in third place. Joel was the fastest overall with a solid run of 22:33 over the testing Lysterfield course. Ian Cayzer, having his second run with the club this winter, finished a few seconds behind Donnar, recording his best 6.5km run with the VCCL. Sean Quilty, after rising early to mark the course, was still able to find the speed to finish of the run in fifth place. Corina Kapusta was the fastest of the ladies with a run of 25:23.

The Victorian Cross Country League would like to thank David Page and AB Phillips for their sponsorship of Saturday’s event.

This week the Victorian Cross Country League has entered two teams in the AV relays at Sandown, the Men’s over 50’s and Women’s over 40’s.

The VCCL’s next two events after the relays are also combined events with Athletics Victoria. On July 16th the 10km road race around Albert Park and July 29th the 15km at Ballarat’s Lake Wendouree. These events are official Club sealed handicaps with prize money. Runners should make their intention to run through the VCCL Facebook page or via email on bmara2011@hotmail.com. Non registered VAL runners are eligible for prizemoney by registering with the VCCL and paying a $20 entry fee.
