Eureka, Lawlor Finally Has A Victory

By Brian Marantelli 8 August 2017

Daniel Lawlor, winner of the 2017 Eric Greaves Memorial H’cap.

Daniel Lawlor, after a frustrating run of minor placings, broke through for his maiden Victorian Cross Country League victory on Sunday at Braeside Park. This year’s event, the nineteenth running, is named in honour of past VCCL stalwart Eric Greaves and is a sealed handicap combined with the Victorian Masters Athletics. After seven consecutive minor placings Daniel ran the 10km race in 35:43 and had eight seconds to spare over his stable mate Oscar Robinson. Oscar was second fastest overall with his time of 33:06 whilst Mitchell Cashion was quickest, completing the two lap event in 32:46. Mitchell was fourth on amended handicaps finishing behind Adamo Triani. Brigette Seeley was the fastest of the women with her time of 39:49 and new member Su-Ann Tan Burke was first novice.

This week is a rest weekend for the VCCL with our next event on Saturday 19th August at Jells Park, 9am start.
