Joel Donnar recorded his second win for the season and his third victory in his seven years of Victorian Cross Country competition on Saturday at Churchill Park, Rowville. Joel ran from a tight handicap in the 6.5km staggered start event and rounded up his opposition in the concluding stages to win by an ever increasing margin of twenty two seconds. Season 2017 has seen Joel produce his best and most consistent racing with the club, including two wins, two seconds and a third from six runs.

Adamo Triani battled on well for second place after looking the winner at various stages of the event. Adamo is another to have a break-out season with the VCCL, with a win and five placing amongst his twelve runs. Sean Quilty as reliable and consistent as in previous seasons finished in third place, a few metres clear of Julian Harris. Troy Atkins was sixth across the line with David Stones and Tony Moran crossing the line together behind Troy. Fastest time of 22:57 went to the winner with fastest female Brigitte Seeley recording 25:56. Camilla Whishaw was the first novice across the finish line in 26:31.

The race was named in honour of long time supporters of the VCCL, Helmut and Maija Prentler. The club’s final event is a 3k at Woodlands Park, Greenvale on Sunday September 10th with a 9am start.

The Victorian Cross Country League’s AGM will be conducted at the McKinnon Hotel on Sunday October 15th with a 10am start.
