Vale Norm Charles

It is with great sadness that the club advises that life member Norm Charles has passed away. Our deepest condolences are with Norm’s family at this time.

Most will know that Norm as the sponsor of the Norm Charles Handicap which was conducted for fifty years and became the pinnacle race of the VCCL. He was also a major benefactor of the club generally for many decades.

Norm was also a long-time competitor, joining the club in the early fifties and running his race in 2005. Unfortunately records from the early days are patchy, but it is believed he won half a dozen VCCL races. In later years he was a keen spectator.
