Haighy For President

By Brian Marantelli 20 September 2011

After a long season and a few near misses David Haigh raced away with the President's Handicap at Westerfolds Park on Sunday. David stated his intentions from the start and throwing caution to the wind, raced hard with the leaders in the sealed handicap. At the three kilometer mark David was clearly the one to beat and eventually won by forty four seconds. David's win came on the back of a third at the Police Paddocks and a second at Westgate.

Although Haigh's win was not unexpected the surprise of the day came from runner-up Joel Donnar who ran his best race of the season, his first with the club. Joel with plenty of improvement to come should develop into a quality backmarker in the years to come. In third place, six seconds away, was the ever consistent Lisa Roberts, who must surely be the most improved runner for the season. In fourth and fifth place were Olivia Findlay and Tony Parsons who also enjoyed a very busy and consistent season, competing in all races this season. Tony Parsons was also the winner of the Ted Paulin over 40's sash.

The fastest time awards went to David Spence and Craig Harris, with Corina kapusta taking the ladies award. Colin Wight, another with a very good season behind him won the novice award.
