Mid-Year Update

Welcome runners to a mid-year update on the season so far.

After the first club event at Jells Park was switched to a parkrun, the club then enjoyed a month of continuous competition. Our last run before the COVID enforced break, was conducted at Lardner Park with the highlight being the over 60’s finishing a great second with Blakey filling in for Mark Hipworth. The club 8m sealed handicap at Lardner Park was won by Craig Harris (31:26) from Francis Dowdle (29:01) and Alex Bacalja (28:32).

Regrettably, after Lardner Park all competition was put on hold by COVID with the loss of two parkrun events, the Ekiden Relay and the Caruana 3km at Woodlands Park. We resumed in late June with two parkruns, the first being won by Julian Harris (17:27) from Greg Foran (20:05) and Adina Morrow (21:45). It was great to see Greg Foran back running with club after a five year break. The following week Brigitte Humphrey was successful in the parkrun sealed handicap running 18:23 to defeat Les Williams (19:40) and Irene James (24:18).

The postponed Cruden Farm 12km was held last Saturday and although numbers were down it was still an entertaining day’s racing over the tough course at the historic homestead. The club sealed handicap was won by Matt Grant (43:41) from Francis Dowdle (42:38) and Corey Lawson (46:48).

Unfortunately as we are back into another lockdown, the Athletics Victoria race at Bundoora scheduled for this Saturday 17 July is now postponed.
