David Grabs An Early Win

By Brian Marantelli 17 May 2011

The Victorian Cross Country League opened the 2011 season with the 8th running of the Fred Grubb memorial 6.5 handicap at Boeing Reserve. David Giralamo, fresh from a successful track season, recorded his second win with the club by a comfortable margin over Ashley Snowden and Colin Wight. Lisa Roberts was the first female home marginally in front of veteran Peter Bence. Fastest time went to Adrian Phelan, five seconds clear of Craig Harris, fastest female was Caitlin Haala. The novice award was won by Leon Brooks. David has taken to the cross country style of running well over the last two seasons and has shown considerable improvement and is sure to continue doing so. Colin Wight produced his best run in his two seasons with the club and a win is not too far away.

It was great to see Duncan Whitford back on the track, returning after two years in Europe. Duncan rejoins the all conquering Davis Stable.

The VCCL would like to thank Bob Charlton and Greg Hutchison for their continued support of this event, named in honour of Fred Grubb, one of the more colourful members to run with the club.

There are a few numbers left in the weekly draw of Tootsie lotto. Please see Lyn McKenzie or Leanne Callaghan for your number.

Please note this weeks race is on Sunday at Karkarook, not Saturday as may have been previously advised.
