No Standing For Parker
By Brian Marantelli 22 May 2012

Adam Parker carried his excellent Bendigo form to Woodland’s Park on Sunday to score a narrow but convincing win in the Caruana 8km Classic. Adam a winner at Mandurang the previous week defeated Stawell youngster Nathan Makovec by ten seconds with a further ten seconds to Lisa Roberts in third place. The first prize of $1000 would certainly make the trip back to Bendigo a comfortable drive. Nathan was the first Stawell/Ararat runner to finish and pocketed an extra $100 bonus for the effort. Colin Davis was once again prominent with a good fourth and looks certain to win in the near future. Matthew Bateman, fresh from a Stawell win at Easter, produced his best VCCL run to finish fifth, whilst Mark DeCampo opened his season with a promising sixth. Another to put in his best VCCL run was Bendigo’s Grant Findlay with a solid seventh place. Grant, as the first Bendigo runner home, other than the winner won the $100 bonus for that category. Zac Newman, having his first VCCL run for several years, was the first novice home as well as winning the fastest time award with a run of 26:05. Corina Kapusta was once again the fastest female in 31:07. Age awards went to Tony Rendina, Colin Davis and Gary Blake. The time honoured “Mt Macca” award was won by Lisa Roberts and she takes the slab of Carlton Draught back to Adelaide.
The race, the seventeenth edition, was sponsored by Joe and Machelle Caruana and their generosity has seen this race become one of the major events on the VCCL calendar.
This week is the 28th running of the Helmut and Maija Prentler Handicap at the Police Paddocks, Dandenong, 10am start.
The annual relay will be conducted at Norton’s Park, Wantirna on June 3rd. Runners can form their own teams (5 runners) or be involved with a composite team. Prizes are awarded to the fastest team a across the line and also the first team on handicap. Please speak to Mark O’Brien on Sunday to confirm your intention to run.
