No Parking For Gary

By Brian Marantelli 25 May 2011

The Victorian Cross Country League conducted the second race of the season at Karkarook Park with the running of the Moran Stable 5k sealed handicap. Tony Moran and his runners have sponsored this event for many years and,as on Sunday, has always been well attended. This years winner was Gary Parkes who improved considerably on his Boeing Reserve run to win by twenty seconds from Ashley Snowden and Craig Harris. Gary's win, his first for a few seasons, was just in time as he leaves for a Gold Coast holiday this week. Ashley Snowden, also second in week one, ran a great race and looks well suited to the increase in distance in the next two weeks. The ever consistent Craig Harris filled another placing just ahead of a bunch on runners including Olivia Findlay, David Haigh, David Page, Leon Brooks and Mark Andrews. There was only seconds separating this group. David Spence, back running with the club, after a couple of years was clearly fastest time from Craig Harris and David Page. Corina Kapusta, another back from a year away from the club, was fastest female. Corina also brought along eight month old baby Ava for her first visit.

Joel Donnar having his first start with the club took home the novice prize with a run that displayed a great deal of promise.

This weeks race is the twenty second running of the Rendina Family 8k at Warringal Park, 10am start.

Last weeks winners in Tootsie Lotto were Lisa Roberts and the Quilty's.
