Pardy Time For Kevin

Kevin Pardy capped his first Victorian Cross Country League season with a clear win in the George Perdon Memorial ten mile event at Lysterfield Park on Sunday. Kevin has been working up to a win with placings at Kyneton and Jells Park, but the authority of his win over the long course on Sunday must have come as a surprise even to Kevin. His official winning margin of ninety five seconds is the longest margin in recent history as he left Gary Blake and Tony Parsons to collect the minor money. Although in his first season with the club, Kevin has shown a willingness to run most weekends regardless of distance or course. Sunday was his thirteenth run out of the seventeen runs to date. To encourage runners to contest the race the VCCL paid the first fifteen placings. Roy McKenzie took advantage of this by showing his best form for the year with a twelfth place. The fastest times were recorded by Marcus Boxall (62:47) and Craig Harris (63:15) with the fastest female being Fiona Ely (80:09). The novice award went to Keleigh Robinson (87:31).

The VCCL ran combined events with Caulfield Grammar who took the opportunity to organise a charity fun run in aid of the Brain Foundation. Rachael Stephens, a year twelve student, put in an incredible effort to organise the students and parents to make the day a success. We also thank Fiona from the foundation who made the trip from Sydney to watch the event.

The 6.5km sweepstakes was taken out by Alan McCullen who ran his opponents into submission as “they” succumbed to the pressure applied by Alan. It was almost as if Alan was racing against himself or the clock.

This week’s event is the 13th Westgate Bridge Memorial Sealed Handicap 5km at Westgate Park with a 10am start. The race is sponsored by the VCCL with a bonus donated by Mark O’Brien and Tom Hecimovic.

Runners please note that the drive for selling the $1000 draw tickets will start in earnest this Sunday.
