Lisa Wins Battle of Warringal Park

By Brian Marantelli 31 May 2011

In one of the closest finishes in recent memory Lisa Roberts held on gallantly to hold out Mark Hipworth by two metres in the 22nd running of the Rendina Family 8k at Warringal Park. Nick Harding running his best race with the club was only metres away in third place. Lisa, in her second season with the Victorian Cross Country League and fresh from a VAL track season, hit the front with two hundred metres to travel and held a decreasing margin to the finish. Lisa's win completes a training double as her partner David Giralamo had earlier won the fred Grubb 6.5k at Boeing Reserve. Fastest times went to Adrian Phelan and David Spence whilst Gemma Kenessy and Corina Kapusta were the fastest females. Mark Hipworth was first male novice and Olivia Findlay first female novice. Greg Foran and Gemma Kenessy having their first runs for the season ran solid races to finish in the top ten.

The Victorian Cross Country League would like to thank Tony, Charlene and Christian Rendina along with Matthew Taylor for their continued support of this event.

This week we welcome the Bendigo Athletic Club to Woodlands Park for the combined VCCL and BAC Caruana 8k handicap, starting a little later than usual at 11 am.

Those wishing to book a place on the Murchison bus for the 38th Murchison 10k please contact Lyn McKenzie.
