Santhy Olowoniyi wins the 2012 Coburg Lake H’cap

The third running of the Coburg Lake 6.5km handicap was conducted on Sunday and the winner was Santhy Olowoniyi who held on for a comfortable win by thirty seconds from Gary Blake and Craig Harris. Santhy took the lead inside the last kilometre and never looked in danger over the concluding stages although both Blake and Harris narrowed the gap with the tough uphill finish. Santhy has gradually improved throughout the season and the Coburg win was her first with the club. Keleigh Robinson ran a great race and only tired over the final stages, managing her best finish for the year. Mark De Campo, from the back mark, made up tremendous ground to finish sixth. Tony Parsons, Tony Rendina and Tony Moran continued with their consistent form over the last few months to record top ten placings. The fastest times were recorded by Mark De Campo (21:32)and Craig Harris (23:04), with Corina Kapusta the fastest female (26:08). The novice prize went to Matt Grant.

Many thanks to the sponsors of the event, Gary Parkes, Vicki Frampton and Dennis Hughes.

The $1000 draw tickets are available. As this is the only fundraiser that the club conducts it is hoped that everyone gets involved by seeing Dennis Hughes for a ticket.

Presentation night tickets are selling fast, see Lyn McKenzie for a seat at the social event of the year. Lyn would like all those with tickets to have payment finalised before the final race at Westerfolds.

This Sunday’s race is at Churchill Park, Rowville with a 10am start. The event is sponsored by Bob Howlett, Sean Quilty and Tony Parsons.
