Parsons Leads His Flock At Lysterfield

After Melbourne was hit with high winds the preceding week, the VCCL event for Sunday September 9th was in grave danger of being cancelled. With Churchill Park closed and Police Paddocks unavailable the club was extremely fortunate to be able to relocate the race to Lysterfield Park. This was due in the main part to Tony Parsons, who on Saturday sourced and marked the new course. To complete the weekend, Tony a sponsor of the event then preceded to win the race in convincing fashion. Parsons defeated Carl Fannon by four seconds with Colin Davis a further two seconds away in third place. The ever consistent, and club aggregate leader, Tony Rendina was in fourth place, clear of Craig Harris and Grant Penney. Although his last win was the Eric Greaves Memorial in 2009, the winner has enjoyed incredible consistency with numerous placing over the last two seasons. Tony is the current VCCL club aggregate holder and has the honour of carrying the number one singlet throughout this season. The runner up, Carl Fannon produced his best run with the club and must have an excellent chance to finish the season with a win at Westerfolds Park this Sunday. The fastest time award went to Carl Fannon (28:55) from Grant Penny (29:03) with the fastest female once again Corina Kapusta (30:51). The Novice award went to Steve Smith (40:31)

Many thanks to Bob Howlett, Sean Quilty and Tony Parsons for their generous sponsorship of the event.

The $1000 draw tickets are available. As this is the only fund raiser that the club conducts it is hoped that everyone gets involved by seeing Dennis Hughes for a ticket.

Presentation night tickets are selling fast. Please see Lyn McKenzie for a seat at the social event of the year. Lyn would like all those with tickets to have payment finalised before the final race at Westerfolds this Sunday.

This week’s event is at Westerfolds Park in Templestowe with a 10am start. As it is the last race of the season, the VCCL social club would like to encourage everyone to stay behind for the race presentations and enjoy lunch at the club’s expense.
