Home James

Wayne James, winner on the 2013 Prentler H’cap.

In near perfect conditions for running the Helmut & Maija Prentler sealed handicap was conducted at Lysterfield over an undulating course that quickly exposed any lack of racing fitness. Wayne James (33:27) ran a very strong and controlled race to shake his 5km specialist tag and record his first win over the 8km journey. Wayne has been a little like Carlton so far, playing well but not winning and it is good to see them both turn that around. Richard Banks (34:22) and Steve Smith (38:57) continued on from recent top 10 form to finish second and third respectively and if they can maintain their form you would expect a win will come in one of the upcoming meetings.

Good to see Mara back for his first run this year taking out the fastest time honours (27:44) having been tested early by an improving Phil O’Brien (28:37). Corina Kapusta (33:11) was once again was the fastest female finishing not far out of the top 10 in another solid run.

Next week the racing moves to Woodlands Historic Park for the 18th Caruana Cross Country Classic. Joe has advised that it will be a new 8km course this year and given the terrain it is likely to present a challenge but it is always an interesting and hotly contested race. Runners please note that due to the Bendigo athletes travelling down it will be an 11am start time.
