Smith Loves It When A Plan Comes Together

Steve Smith, winner of the 2013 Rendina Family H’cap.

After a run of close finishes and many runs with the VCCL, Steve Smith (37:45) achieved his first win in the 24th Rendina Family Handicap. Steve ran a very controlled race and managed to hold off fast finishing Daniel Veith (29:56) and Leon Brooks (32:35), with both finishing within 20 seconds of the winner.

Phil O’Brien (28:00) took out fastest time honours and Corina Kapusta (30:46) took home her weekly pocket money with another fastest female award. It was good to see some really good numbers including a host of fun runners for this popular race and the weather and course were fantastic. Tony Rendina unfortunately was unable to run in his own race due to a TV kicking incident on Saturday night, and it must have affected his throat too as he was strangely silent.

Next Sunday is an opportunity to be part of a team in the 5 x 3Km Relay Challenge at Nortons Park, Wantirna South. This is always a fun event and very well supported so make sure that you let Mark O’Brien know if you have a team, or would like to be part of one by Monday (20/5) by text to 0412 250 135 or email mob0659@gmail.com.
