C'mon Irene

By David Page 5 June 2013

On a perfect morning around the picturesque Birdsland reserve, Irene James (24:01) ran a perfect race cheered on by a good number of spectators and local wildlife including two pelicans to record a 5 second win from 5km specialist Mark Howard (19:46), and Leon Brooks (19:48). To cap off a successful morning, Irene’s run was good enough to carry her husband Wayne to a win in the family feud event.

The numbers for this event were fantastic with 22 fun runners starting in the sealed event and once handicaps were applied the top 10 were all within 30 seconds of each other which is a good indication of the closeness of the race. Phil O’Brien (16:32) and Travis Longmuir (17:16) set the pace out front and Brigette Seeley (21:17) led in the female competitors.

Runners get the week off this long weekend which will provide a good opportunity to polish up the racing flats for Flack Advisory Eaglehawk to Bendigo Handicap over 6.5km. This will be the last time that this race is competed over this course and please note that it is a 12pm start. This is one of the biggest races on the VCCL calendar and it is important that VCCL and BAC runners confirm their entry as soon as possible. Let’s make this a huge field for the final outing over this course.
