David Becomes a Goliath

By Brian Marantelli 14 June 2011

David Girolamo showed his continued improvement as a distance athlete with a comprehensive win at Birdsland in the 5k Boutique Financial Planning handicap. David hit the lead at the five hundred metre mark and held out the fast finishing backmarkers Mark Andrews and Michael Marantelli. David, who started the season with a win at Boeing Reserve, has maintained his form with consistent finishes in the races since. He has previously been considered a four hundred metre track runner but is quickly adding another facet to his talents. The fastest time cheques were won by Michael Marantelli and Mark Andrews. Mark, over the last couple of years, has developed into a very consistent competitor on the track and now has carried that trait onto the cross country circuit. Marantelli, having his first run for the season, started from the back mark but gradually worked his way through the field to miss the winner by five seconds. Another having his first run for the season was Sean Beer who held on well to run fourth. Leon Brooks was the first novice, Daniel Lawlor was first, first year finisher. The fastest females were Corina Kapusta and Olivia Findlay.

The Family Feud was won clearly by David Girolamo and partner Lisa Roberts. Lisa is having a great cross country season, hanging onto run seventh at Birdsland after winning at Warringal Park two weeks ago.

The Victorian Cross Country League appreciates the work done by Brendan Liddicoat and his company Boutique Financial planning.

This weekend's race is the Eaglehawk to Bendigo 6.5k handicap, with a 12 noon start.
