Ms Robinson Wins A Close Affair

Keleigh Robinson, winner of the 15th Eric Greaves Memorial in 2013.

Keleigh Robinson continued with her career best form with a narrow but good win in the Eric Greaves Memorial 10km at Braeside Park on Sunday. A few weeks ago Keleigh opened her VCCL winning account with a win in the shorter 5km Lilydale event and might have been expected to struggle over the longer distance. However she stuck to her guns to win by three seconds from Corina Kapusta and a further seven seconds to last week’s winner, Gerry O’Donnell. Robinson trains with the strong Colin Davis stable who have not had a great season at this stage, due mainly to the loss of their marquee runner Wayne Davis through injury. David Haigh finished fourth, just ahead of a close group consisting of Greg Foran, Mark Andrews, Richard Banks, Matthew Bateman and Mark Hipworth. The time between those six runners was only thirteen seconds. Wayne James rounded out the top ten with Kylie Donnar winning the novice prize.

The race, run in conjuction with the Victorian Masters, honours the memory of the late Eric Greaves who was a great contributor and competitor for both clubs throughout his running life. The Victorian Business runners were also a welcome addition to the day’s event.

The Braeside event is also the venue for the VCCL 10km championship. The Open winners were Shane Thiele and Corina Kapusta with Mark Hipworth, Gary Parkes and Travis Longmuir taking out the age divisons. The sashes for these titles will be presented later in the year at the annual presentation night.

Next Sunday is the 5km Jayen Engineers Woodlands Classic at Woodlands, starting at 10am.

Please note that the start time for the Kyneton Winery event (August 18th) is now 11am (previously advertised for 10am).
