Corina Has Taste Of Success At Winery

Corina Kapusta, winner of the 2013 Kyneton Ridge H’cap.

After 10 consecutive top ten placings Corina Kapusta broke through for a hard fought win at the Kyneton Estate ridge Winery in the 6.5km handicap. The race, part sponsored by the Hipworth stable has the toughest race finish on the calendar with the last five hundred metres raced up a steep winding hill. Corina took the lead before the hill and held on tenaciously to win by five seconds from Wayne James and the fast finishing Phil Noden, three seconds away in third place.

Sunday’s win was Corina’s seventh with the Victorian Cross Country League as she nears two hundred runs with the club. Combined with those wins is a staggering seventy three top ten finishes.

Wayne James, with two runner up finishes at his two recent runs, looks a great chance to take out the 5mk at Westgate Park this Sunday. The first Bendigo Athletic Club runner to finish was Phil Noden, who put in another tough run for third. Phil gained the fastest overall time with his run of 22:58, Kapusta was fastest female with her time of 25:15. Leon Brooks continued his consistent 2013 season with fourth just ahead of Adam Parker and Matt Grant. Sean Quilty and Brendan Norden both put in their best runs for a few seasons with their seventh and eighth placings. The female novice award went to Kylie Donnar with Matt Grant taking home the male novice cheque.

The VCCL would like to thank the “Hippo” stable for their generous sponsorship at Kyneton and would also wish to remind runners that Sunday’s event at Westgate Park is the last chance for runners to qualify for the Norm Charles 10km classic. This Sunday’s event starts at 10am.

As the season winds down the VCCL advisers that nominations for the 2014 committee positions are open and invite anyone interested to think seriously about placing a nomination with Lyn McKenzie.
