Luke Win, No Fluke

By Brian Marantelli 11 July 2011

The 27th running of the Helmut and Maija Prentler 8k sealed handicap went to novice runner Luke Searle from Colin Wight and Leon Brooks. After the field was sent away in a mass start Luke was second across the finish line behind David Spence with Corey lawson in third place. Luke and David ran head to head for much of the race with Luke heading David several times before tiring towards the finish. Colin Wight was the surprise packet running a great race to finish second over the 8k course, the 5k at lilydale looks an ideal race for colin to open his account. Marcus Boxall returned to the top ten at Jells Park with a very good fourth just ahead for Craig Harris and Rob Findlay. Rob, enjoying his weekend off from the AFL, ran his best race with the club with his sixth. Four hundred metre runner Eric Sapac also finished in the top ten for the first time this year and seems to be adjusting to the longer events. The James family, Wayne and Irene, continued on with their consistent form to finish in the placings. Corina Kapusta won the fastest female award.

The Victorian Cross Country League appreciates the long running sponsorship provided by Helmut and Maija Prentler.

This week's race is the 38th running of the Murchison 10k sponsored by Doug Tuhan.

Runners please note that to be eligible for the 46th Norm Charles Classic you must have completed three races with the VCCL this year.
